The Ministry of Justice has recently published the annual Employment Tribunal (ET) Service statistics for the period 2025/2026, and they demonstrate the pressure that the ET system is currently facing. The key points of note from the latest statistics are set out below:

How many single ET claims (that is, an ET claim raised by an individual) were raised in 2025/2026?

During 2025/2026 the ET received 50,000 single claims and disposed of 26,000 of that caseload during that period. Compared to 2024/2025 this represents:

  • A 39% increase in the number of single claims received and

  • A 12% decrease iin the number of single claims disposed of

Most notably, at the end of March 2026, there were approximately 64,000 outstanding single claims in the ET's caseload. This is a 55% increase compared with the number of open single claims at the end of the 2024/2025 period.

How many multiple claims (where a claim has been raised by more than one claimant on the same grounds) were raised in 2025/2026?

In 2025/2026 the ET recieved 2,400 multiple claim cases and disposed of 1,700 multiple claim cases. In comparison to the 2024/2025 statistics, this represents:

  • A 40% decrease in the number of new multiple claims received and

  • A 39% decrease in the number of multiple claims disposed of

However, in 2025/2026 there was still a 5% increase in the number of open multiples compared to that of the 2024/2025 period.
